Counseling Services

Counselors are available to assist students in identifying, clarifying, and reaching their educational and career goals. Counselors provide confidential Academic, Transfer, Career, and Personal counseling services.

Need assistance planning your classes?

For new Chabot student in Spring 23, and have never attended college – sign up for a First Semester Planning Session now 

For all other students: Schedule an appointment to see a counselor or come to drop in counseling  (in-person and virtual available) during our hours.  To schedule an appointment you can come to the front desk of General Counseing (Bldg 700, 2nd floor) or email: cc-counseling@chabotcollege.edu 

For priority registration, be sure to complete the Core Services:

  • Student Education plan: get help from a counselor picking classes for your next semester. For a one semester plan, feel free to visit Drop-In counseling during our hours

Drop-in Counseling

In-person and online drop-in counseling is available during the following days and times until posted closure OR until we reach capacity. This is a brief session (maximum 30 minutes).

  • Support and questions regarding your academic goals
  • Academic/Progress Probation 1
  • One semester academic planning (SEPA) 
  • Submitting counseling forms - for example: 
    • Excess units
    • Petition to repeat
    • Prerequisite overrides & challenges
    • Prerequisite challenges
    • Substitution waivers

Counseling Appointments

Are available either in-person or online. Counseling appointments are available NOW for all academic and career counseling services.  Appointments are scheduled for 60 minute sessions.  Mid-February through March is a great time to schedule your appointment in advance of Summer and Fall registration which begins on April 24th, 2023. April and May is our rush period and services may be impacted. Please plan ahead. 

  • Long-term, comprehensive student education plan (SEP) (2+ semester plan)
  • Evaluation of progress toward graduation or transfer
  • University transfer planning
  • Career/Major Exploration
  • Probation 2/Dismissal status (Probation level 1 students click here)
  • Evaluation of transfer credit from other colleges and universities
  • Financial Aid education plan needed for financial aid appeal
  • TAG – Transfer Agreement Guarantee Review for UC transfers
  • ADT – AAT or AST degree planning
  • Career Guidance and counseling
  • Personal or Crisis counseling
