LVN-RN Program Fall 2023 Cancelled: Due to the continued uncertainty of Covid-19, and the affect on our student nursing clinical experience, we have decided to not offer the LVN-RN Program for Fall 2023.

LVN-RN Program Upgrade

LVN to RN program assists Licensed Vocational Nurses (LVN) in achieving eligibility to take the National Council Licensing Examination for Registered Nursing (NCLEX – RN).

There are two LVN to RN options:

  1. AS Degree (highly recommended) see program of study
  2. RN 30 unit non-degree

The Advanced Standing (LVN-RN) Application is open from April 1 to June 30. Please contact the Nursing Program at for an application.

Who can apply

Anyone currently working as an LVN for 500 hours of direct patient care and can provide a letter of evidence.

Admission Requirement

All requirements must be completed to enter Fall NURS 70 Transition class (LVN-RN Program Fall 2022 and Fall 2023 Cancelled).

  1. Passed ATI TEAS Test (Ver. 6 or 7) with a score of 62% or higher
    1. An unofficial copy must be submitted with your application. If admitted, official test results from ATI Testing must be submitted unless test is taken at Chabot College.
    2. Students who do not acquire a score of 62% or higher will be required to complete remediation prior to testing again.
    3. If you do not pass the ATI TEAS on your second attempt after remediation, you are not eligible for the Chabot Nursing Program.

    4. Only the first valid score will be accepted if you have taken the test multiple times.
  2. Completed the Chabot College equivalent for each the following science courses: Anatomy 1, Physiology 1, Microbiology 1
    1. Each must include a lab and must be 4-5 semester units (Equivalency Chart).
    2. Completion of one term of Anatomy/Physiology combined course WILL NOT satisfy this requirement.
    3. You can earn only one “C” in combination of the three science courses.
    4. A minimum 2.5 GPA is required.
    5. Fall Transition Classes ( NURS 70/70L) will have a seven year recency. Science courses must be completed after
      • 08/01/2015 for incoming Fall 2022
      • 08/01/2016 for incoming Fall 2023
      • 08/01/2017 for incoming Fall 2024
    6. Comparable course from U.S. Regionally Accredited Colleges/Universities are accepted. Check the equivalency chart for your classes.
  3. Can attend mandatory Orientation in December or May. See information meetings for dates and location.
  4. Can submit a copy of your LVN License (front and back)
  5. Can submit a copy of your American Heart Association BLS Card
  6. Can provide a letter of evidence you are currently working in acute or subacute direct patient care as an LVN for 500+ hours within the last 18 months.
  7. Completed NURS 70/70L with a “C” or higher on the first attempt
    1. Passed the Math for Medication Exam
    2. Passed Kaplan Specialty Exams (pediatrics, obstetrics, fundamentals, pharmacology) at a score individual to each test or passed the theory courses (NURS 81/82/64) on the first attempt
      NOTE: Requirements 4-6, on the above list, must be completed within 2 years of application.
  8. Passed NURS 84: Prescriptive Clinical Skills at the beginning of the semester prior to admission in order to practice and take skills exams. This is valid for 6 months.


  • Approximately $4,000 plus transportation costs to the hospitals and other agencies. Costs are subject to change.

  2. Review the admissions requirements above. Make sure you have completed/passed and can fulfill all requirements.
  3. Complete LVN to RN application through Class-Web. Application would be open on April 1 and close on June 30.
