Literacy Education Online
This very comprehensive site is easy to navigate and offers LOTS of information to help with writing issues from “I need help getting started” to “All of my sentences sound the same.” Set up like a FAQ.

Paradigm Online Writing Assistant
This site offers various guides on getting started, organizing, revising, editing, writing, and documenting different types of essays.

Hypertext Writer's Guide
This is another fairly detailed (but less visual) site with tips for writing sentences, paragraphs, summaries, and different types of essays. It also contains a good glossary of literary terms and some useful advice for fixing common grammar errors as well.

Language Tools
This is a fun site where you can quickly look up words, idioms, synonyms, field-specific terminology, etc. through other sites. Site also contains foreign language translators, and even crossword and scrabble solvers. Click on "Language Tools" in the navigation menu.

Techniques for Writing
This excellent site offers sound advice and useful exercises on writing topic sentences, paragraph development, using transitions, creating thesis statements, writing conclusions, and even giving and receiving peer review. This is also a great resource for self-study.

Citing Non-traditional Sources

This site has a great list of guidelines for how to cite non-traditional sources, such as television and radio programs, performances and visual images such as photographs and advertisement. An easy-to-navigate style and comprehensive list make this site a great resource for research papers.

Student Hacks

This great site contains all sorts of useful tips for things like time management, writing a term paper and “how to write a fascinating thesis statement” along with more general information for college students such as how to find inexpensive textbooks and study effectively. The extensive “categories” list includes links to pages on everything from APA and MLA documentation to the most common grammar mistakes.
