One can argue that all good writing, including non-fiction, is creative writing, but for the purposes of CHARLIE, this category encompasses all of the stories, poems, screenplays, stageplays, and free-form fun that come out of the imagination. Creative writing allows for tremendous freedom with regard to style, language, and form. However, a Chabot creative writing class will allow you opportunities to study great writing models, and try your hand at an art form which encompasses character development, plot structure, imagery, symbolism, setting, narration styles, and more. Language Arts offers classes in creative writing, poetry, fiction--English 11, 12, and 13 respectively -- taught by faculty who are practising writers and performers. Some of these classes fulfill humanities transfer credits and can be applied to the English A.A. degree.
See below for some examples of creative writing by Chabot students.
