Mexican-American/Latino Literature (English 22) Meets Mondays and Wednesdays 1:30-2:45. Instructor A. Magallon, 3 units
Strongly recommended: Eligibility for Eng 1A. Come learn more about Mexican-American and Latino issues from a variety of authors AND earn 3 transfer credits this fall in English 22! In this class you will have the chance to analyze poetry, literature and perform in one of the various dramas we cover in class.
Storytelling in Modern American Novels and Films (English 4910) Meets Thursdays 10:30-11:45. Instructor Clara McLean, 3 units
This is a fun English elective course in which we read and discuss several
modern American novels and watch films that are thematically connected to the
novels. Novels will include F. Scott Fitzerald's "The Great Gatsby",
Octavia Butler's "Kindred", and Jhumpa Lahiri's "The Namesake."
Films will include Orson Welles' "Citizen Kane," Paul Haggis' "Crash,"
and Sofia Coppola's "Lost in Translation." Contact Clara McLean for

Service-Learning 85--Learning in Action Meets Wednesdays 1:30-2:20. Instructor Clara McLean, 2-3 units
This is a 2-3 unit course in which students do community service projects over the course of the semester for transferable college credit. Class meets on campus one hour per week for discussion, reflection and training, and students perform 3 hours per week of community service in local organizations or schools. Students have a large variety of projects to choose from, or may bring their own community service projects and ideas. Introduction to English Grammar (English 107) Two sections: Tuesday and Thursday 10:30-11:45. Instructor Ceiny Carney OR Tuesday Evening 6:30-9:20 p.m. Instructor Susan Gill 3 units, C/NC only.
Improve your ability to express your ideas in a variety of well-formed sentences
and to identify and correct errors commonly made in writing. Gain confidence
and a better understanding of how language works. This low-pressure credit/no
credit class is essential learning support for other courses that focus on writing
and gives you a practical advantage in your academic and professional life.
