COMPUTER SCIENCE DEPARTMENT

Computer Science Transfer Programs

The Computer Science Department offers a carefully designed transfer program for those students who wish to finish a bachelors degree at at four year institution. Needless to say there is a substantial cost savings in completing your first two years of college at a Community College. Our students regularly transfer to Cal State Hayward and other local colleges including U.C. Berkeley, San Jose State, U.C. Davis and Stanford University. We currently offer one transfer degree: the AA/AS Degree in Computer Science with Emphasis in Mathematics.  Pending state approval we will also offer the  AA/AS Degree in Linux Systems Programming..

  •  AA/AS Degree in Computer Science with Emphasis in Mathematics -- designed for the student who is planning to transfer to a university for a BS in Computer Science or a related field. It meets the general lower-division Computer Science and Mathematics requirements for most universities in Computer Science.
  •  AA/AS Degree in Computer Science - Linux Systems Programming (pending state approval) -- designed as either a vocational or transfer degree. It is designed to give the student the skills necessary to get and hold an entry-level job as a UNIX or Linux systems programmer. Also, with careful selection of electives, it would be an excellent transfer degree to a university that uses UNIX or Linux in much of its curriculum, such as the California State University, Hayward, or the University of California, Davis. As always, you should consult your intended transfer institution for their specific transfer requirements.

Our curriculum emphasizes C++ and Java as our transfer languages. Consult your intended transfer institution for their transfer requirements. Our UNIX/Linux programming courses are all taught in C. We also teach UNIX shell scripting, Perl, C#, Visual Basic .NET, Oracle DB, SQL, HTML, DHTML, PHP, VBScript, ASP, XML and XSL. For a complete listing of Computer Science courses consult the online catalog. For a complete listing of our degree and certificate programs please see our degrees page.

Course Articulation Agreements with Local Colleges

Certain courses you take at Chabot articulate to courses offered at a four year college. This means that once you complete the course at Chabot you won't have to take the corresponding course at your transfer institution. For specific articulation agreements consult assist.org.  Here are links to the articulation agreements between Chabot and some local colleges:
