Financial Aid Office
Types of Aid
Board Of Governor's Fee Waiver (BOG)
- This program waives the enrollment
fee for qualified California residents attending a California community college.
- You can apply by completing the FAFSA or a one page BOG application form
in English, or
Spanish.
- This
waiver is available if your financial need is considered low, moderate, or high.
- This is the most accessible of the programs that Chabot College offers.
Federal Pell Grants
- The Federal Pell Grant is free grant money that does
not have to be repaid. These grants are available to assist in meeting
educational costs.
- The amount of your Pell Grant is determined by the size of
your EFC, the Cost of Attendance at Chabot College, your enrollment status (i.e.
half-time, three-quarter time, or full-time), and whether you attend for part or
all of the academic year.
- Federal Pell Grants are targeted to students with very
high need. Even if you do not qualify for a Pell Grant, you may be eligible for
other forms of financial aid.
Federal Supplemental Education Opportunity Grant (FSEOG)
- This grant is
reserved for students with the greatest financial need.
- Unlike Federal Pell
Grants, FSEOG funding is limited. Chabot College receives a predetermined amount
of FSEOG funds for the school year. Once those funds are used up, no additional
awards can be made.
Cal Grant A, B, and C
- These grants are available to California residents
who apply by March 2nd for the next school year. The funding is limited. In
addition to filing a FAFSA, a separate application may be required.
- The three
types of Cal Grants (A, B, or C) relate to what type of program you will be
enrolled in at Chabot College. Download a Cal
Grant Brochure.
- If you missed the March 2nd filing deadline, you may still qualify by meeting a September 2 competative Cal Grant deadline
for California Community College students only. Come to the Financial
Aid Office now for more information.
- Download a Cal
Grant Brochure, or application
information.
- If you still have questions, visit the
Cal Grant FAQ
- www.calgrants.org (Cool new
site!)
EOPS
- EOPS (Extended Opportunity Programs and Services) is available to
California residents who have a high-need and whose educational and
socio-economic backgrounds might otherwise prevent them from successfully
attending and succeeding in college.
- Services
include grants, childcare payment, and other support services.
- A separate
application to the EOPS office is required along with completing the FAFSA.
Please contact EOPS directly at (510)723-6909, or visit the
EOPS website
for more details.
Federal Work-Study (FWS)
- This program provides those students with
financial need part-time work to assist in meeting educational costs.
- The amount
of a FWS award depends on your financial need, the amount of other aid you
receive, and the availability of funds at Chabot College. Pay rates vary but
will never be less than the current minimum wage.
- Those who apply early have a better chance at receiving an award.
Federal Stafford Loan
- This loan must be repaid after leaving school. A bank provides the principal
(the amount you are approved to borrow).
- There are two types of Stafford Loans:
- The Subsidized Stafford is based on financial need.
The Federal government pays the interest on this loan while a student
is in school at least haft-time and during approved deferment periods.
- The Unsubsidized Stafford loan is not based on financial
need, but cannot exceed a student's cost of attendance or annual maximum
amounts. The Federal government does not pay the interest on the loan.
- We do not recommend borrowing through these programs while enrolled at Chabot
College.

has been determined, you may pick up a Returning Student Loan Packet from the
