Important Information for Financial Aid Applicants

Enrollment Fees

Enrollment Fees are now $21 per unit.  If you have not applied for the BOG or other forms of Financial Aid, keep reading! You may be eligible for grant money or other help to aid you in paying for tuition, books and other educational expenses.

Financial Aid to Help with Educational Expenses

Many of our students are eligible for Federal or State financial aid but do not apply! If you would like to apply for financial aid to assist you with your educational expenses, you can still do so. It will take a little time and effort on your part, but we are here to help you. The Board of Governor’s (BOG) Fee Waiver program will waive the enrollment fees for eligible students admitted to Chabot, as well as the Health Center fee. Parking permits are reduced to $20/semester for BOG eligible students. For financial assistance with other educational expenses, apply for Federal and State aid using the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) each year online. Additional documents and follow up will be required.

Parking Permits

Parking permits at Chabot are $30 per semester. However, if you have applied for and have been approved as BOG eligible, your parking permit will only cost $20 per semester( For additional information email: ParkingPermits-Chabot@chabotcollege.edu). You must bring proof of registration and BOG eligibility to the Bookstore at the time of purchase of your parking permit. You can obtain proof of registration and BOG eligibility each semester from CLASS-Web.

CAL Grant

We continually review eligibility and award CAL Grant awards for 2007-08. If you received an award letter from CSAC, and you do not see an award on CLASS-Web, please advise our office by bringing a copy of your CSAC award letter to our office.

Federal Work Study (FWS)

All FWS funds have been awarded for the 2007-08 academic year. If you have been awarded FWS for 2007-08, please visit the Student Employment Center for placement in an available position on campus. If you have been awarded other financial aid, but NOT FWS, please contact the Financial Aid Office for potential awarding, and visit the Student Employment Center to see what other non-FWS employment options are available to you.

Stafford Student Loans

Student loans should be the last form of financial aid to be considered to assist in funding your education. However, if you are interested in finding out more or applying for a student loan, you must meet all funding requirements, have a completed FA file, and have completed Entrance Counseling prior to loan consideration.

New students must attend a Student Loan Entrance Counseling session, even if they had a student loan at another college. Returning Chabot borrowers must successfully complete online Entrance Counseling using EdTe$t, print the confirmation page, and bring the signed copy to our office. *Please note that per Chabot’s Default Management Plan, all students must also successfully complete an Exit Counseling using EdTe$t after receiving the first disbursement, and before receiving their second annual disbursement.

Student Loan Entrance Counseling

Applicants must have a completed Financial Aid file prior to applying for a student loan. Pre-Loan entrance counseling is required of all students wishing to borrow a student loan.

NEW BORROWERS: New borrowers must attend Pre-Loan Counseling at one of the sessions listed below. Sessions are 1 hour long, and students are expected to remain present for the entire hour. Students arriving late will need to return for another scheduled session in order to receive the loan application packet

RETURNING BORROWERS: If your financial aid file has been completed and you have been awarded, you may pick up a loan packet for returning students from the Financial Aid Office. Complete pre-loan counseling on-line using EdTe$t, submit your test results and completed loan application to the Financial Aid Office.

Student Loan Providers

Chabot's Financial Aid Office works with some excellent student loan providers. Access our Preferred Lender list to see what each lender offers in the way of Stafford Student Loans and borrower benefits:
Preferred Lender List - Effective May 1, 2008, Citibank has chosen not to lend to Chabot College Students. We are currently revising our Lender List.

Student Identification Number

To better ensure the confidentiality of your Social Security Number, the Chabot-Las Positas Community College District has implemented a User Identification Number. This number does not replace your Social Security Number as an identification number in the College records and Financial Aid requirements, but it provides us with an alternate unique number to use for reporting, correspondence with you, and for accessing your records within the Colleges' Student Information System.

You may still use your Social Security Number for all transactions with the College, or you may use your new User ID. While you can use either number to access your records, only the User ID will display on our computer screens, attendance collection systems, grade rosters, and reports. (Due to the nature of Financial Aid and Federal Financial Aid regulations, we will continue to request verification of a student’s SSN as necessary in our office.)

The User Identification Number is a unique number beginning with the letter "W" and an additional eight (8) digits. To find out your new user identification number, Sign On to CLASS-Web using your current identification number and PIN, and click the "What's My New User ID?" link.

Complete your Financial Aid File

If you have not yet applied for financial aid, you can start by completing a Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA). This is the base application for all Federal and State aid, and often is the only method a student can qualify for the BOG Fee Waiver. California residents may request consideration to have their enrollment & health services fees waived, and qualify for a reduced parking permit by completing a BOG application. Verification of income may be randomly requested and required at time of application.

All Financial Aid applicants must follow up with our office to complete their financial aid file by providing requested documents to verify and finalize the review and award process. Begin by checking CLASS-Web for file status, holds, academic progress status, and financial aid awards. Documents needed by our office can be found on our forms page). It is in your best interest to complete all items requested and bring in to our office for review during office hours.

  • Apply for financial aid using FAFSA or the BOG application in the forms page
  • Go to CLASS-Web Financial Aid to see what follow up or documents required
  • Obtain necessary documents at Financial Aid website:
    • From home, Student Online Services, or Library
  • New Students: Attend New Student Orientation to get a good start in college by preparing your Student Education Plan.
  • Returning Students: Meet with Academic Counseling for SEP
  • Bring ALL requested follow up documents to our office during office hours to review with staff
  • Bring copies, not originals
  • Photo ID required
  • We will ask you for your new Chabot Student ID # rather than your Social Security #.

If you have a financial aid file started with our office, please allow us time to complete your file. To check the status of your file or awards, use CLASS-Web rather than visit our office so we can use our time to complete your file.

Please note that Summer is our busiest time of year, as late applicants and students who did not complete their financial aid files in the Spring are scrambling to get their files completed before Fall semester. This is typical at the end/start of every semester. Our volume will continue to be very busy this year, as more students are looking to find ways of paying for their enrollment fees and other college expenses.

FAFSA "Cash for College" Workshops & Festival

Finally, it is important to plan ahead for next year. Participate in our FAFSA workshops for the 2008-2009 academic year, to help ensure you apply early and accurately.

Visit the Festival & Workshops page for more info on the Financial Aid workshops being held throughout the year, and to download and print a schedule.
