Danger of Osteoporosis And the Easy Ways to Prevent It
From Happening to You
or Someone You Care About
By Janet Giang
Osteoporosis is a debilatating disease that can happen
to anyone. About ten million Americans alone have been victims of this
disease, eight million of them being females. Osteoporosis is defined
as a disease that targets the bones, it can cause severe back pain, bone
lose, and even death. This happens when the bone becomes fragile and
easy to break. There is nothing positive about this disease, the victims
or the love ones of the victims are always deeply effected. There are
no major symtoms for this disease, most patients discover the disease when
a bone finally breaks (the progress of osteoporosis is painless, until
a bone is broken). Fortunately, nowadays there are organizations and
useful information that can be found online that can prevent this disease
or keep it in a stable condition so no major harm can occur in the future.
Although there are many good information that can be discovered on
the world wide web, there are still a lot of them that are commercial sites
whos only target is to sell you products. Those sites are of little or no
use to someone who really need the real information. Below are some
very wonderful sites that contains major information on the disease, so take
advantage of these sites if you want to learn about the disease that has
struck so many innocent lives; and maybe you can learn to help yourself or
someone else ways to prevent from being diagnose.
NATIONAL OSTEOPOROSIS FOUNDATION
http://www.nof.org/
NOF is a non-profit organization focused mainly
on the disease itself. This website explains in detail what the disease
is and the main reasons that causes it. Although it does not state
any names on whom was credited that has created the site nor any credentials
on the people that have created it, they do provide information that the
foundation gets from other medical foundations that updates this organization
about osteoporosis. One major foundation is the PPN (Professional Partners
Network), they are a nationwide network of oseteoporosis health care providers
and by being a division of NOF (National Osteoporosis Foundation) they give
links to NOF in a year round effort ot provide accurate, timely information
to patients and public about the prevention, and treatment of the disease.
The information on this site is always updated ever so often, and it
contains a lot of current events in which the public can take part in for
helping the fight of osteoporosis. There are very useful sub-topics that
are also provided for the visitors of the site so it is easy and convinient
enough for anyone to find the quick information they need. If you needed
information on how to find a doctor, there is a specific sub-topic that will
lead you directly to that. From finding professionals to making donations,
to even finding fashion tips on how to dress for women who has the disease;
this website has almost all you need to know the answers to your questions
about osteoporosis.
JOHN
HOPKINS FOR OSTEOPOROSIS
http://www.hopkins-arthritis.som.jhmi.edu/edu/osteo_update.html
This is an educational website which provide many topics
on selected topics of Biomedical Science. It discusses in molecular
and cellular biology and their application to diagnosis, treatment and research
in arthritis and other rheumatic diseases. Luckily, but not surprisingly
they have a topic on osteoporosis. Almost all topics are written and
discussed by professionals or specialists in the field. The topic of
Osteoporosis is written by Michele F. Bellantoni, M.D., she is an Associate
Professor in the Department of Medicine at Johns Hopkins University. Her
major interest is on Osteoporosis itself and she also has a lot more credentials
that are listed on the site underlined with her name. In her topic
about osteoporosis, she also had a lot of references from other credited
medical professionals in which had lend her a hand on making the topic possible.
You can have a look at the list at the very end of her discussion on
the topic. The topic on osteoporosis is not as broaden or widen as
the one above. It is a lot shorter, but still with useful subtopics so it
is easy to browse for the one that you are looking for. There are less
information on such things as fashion tips for osetoporosis victims or how
to find doctors, but they do provide useful phone numbers on how to contact
clinics or foundations to look for help. This web site provides a lot
more topics on molecular and cellular biology, so because osteoporosis is
only on of its many topics, do not expect all the information to be as thoroughly
explained as the web site above. This website is not very biased because
it only mainly contain information on the disease itself, and how to treat
and prevent it. There are not much of her own opinions that will inflict
on the subject. But all in all, this is still a very useful website
to know information and simple and easy ways to prevent osteoporosis to spread.
This site is frequently updated as well because they are always adding
medical topics to their educational collection.
FOUNDATION FOR OSTEOPOROSIS RESEARCH
AND EDUCATION
http://www.fore.org/index.html
FORE (Foundation for Osteoporosis Research and Education)
is a non-porfit organization that is dedicated on mainly helping individuals
better their eduation on the disease, and fighting to destroy it forever.
It is quite a pleasant site to step into because it gives individuals
a comforting environment to enter into, for example, with pictures on the
side and very good choice of coloration as well. The site provides
three simple main-topics that will lead into more general sub-topics for
you to choose. It will give you thorough information on the right ways
to search for physicians, and also have current news on the newest advanced
medications that are available for the disease too. It has links to
other resources for FAQ about osteoporosis, and one thing that is clearly
printed on top of the web site is the page that links the credits the team
members of FORE. Although the other two websites are also extremely
useful, FORE provides a lot at the catch of the eyes. The have a small
grooup of directors in which some of them are credited with medical degrees.
This site has all the information provided with the previous two websites,
and is the most simple to use. It has the latest news and events on
the disease for everyone to take part in, it is not a site that will try
to sell you a lot of non-sense information in which you will not need. Something
that is most enjoyable about this site is that everything is very, very easy
to find and understand. Every page on the site is very nice and pleasant
to gazed at, and that is an important factor because it provides the indivduals
with more interest to stay on the site to learn more about the subject. This
site is frequently updated so all the events posted on the website will be
available for any individuals who want to look it up for further information.
