Many users are having problems getting into our databases the new way through ComCast Cable, especially those who are connecting via Internet Explorer through Macs and PC’s. So far, it appears that the problem lies in the ComCast software—when you installed the software, it rewrote particular settings on your machine. Because of those rewrites, you will NOT be able to get into our databases the new way using Microsoft Internet Explorer at this time.
Our general recommendation is to have downloaded on your machine Firefox. So far, we have heard that many have been able to get into the databases through these browsers, using ComCast Cable. Below are the sites you can go to download Firefox.
Firefox: http://www.mozilla.com/en-US/firefox/
There is no cost to download these browsers.
More information on how to set privacy settings and use Firefox is available at: http://www.chabotcollege.edu/Library/abby/NSanswers.html
If you want to access databases with Microsoft Internet Explorer, you can still get into most databases the old way. Ask for the handout at the Reference Desk for the multiple usernames and passwords. Keep in mind that to get into the databases Project MUSE and Lexis-Nexis you can ONLY get into those databases the new way.
For access to databases Alt-PressWatch, Ethnic NewsWatch, and GenderWatch the old way, go to: http://www.chabotcollege.edu/Library/abby/dblist.html#proquestold
