Internet Skills Syllabus

Course Description

This course focuses on developing effective skills to find and retrieve information on the Internet. Students will learn to use Netscape to search the World Wide Web, and to access Internet resources using search, retrieval and browsing tools. This course will also cover Internet issues that relate to free communication and censorship. The methods of instruction will include lecture, demonstration, homework, hands-on activities and exercises.

Upon completion of this course, students will have a basic understanding of Internet tools. Students will be able to:

Required Materials


One 3 1/2 " floppy disk - Macintosh Format. Materials on the Internet can be found at the Reserve Desk in the Library.

Attendance

Regular attendance and full participation in this course will be expected. Let one of us know in advance if you will be missing a class (our e-mail addresses are listed above). Please make arrangements with other students now to get missed lecture notes, assignments, etc. You must have a "study buddy". You can be automatically dropped from the class with an absence of 2 class meetings.

Assignments

Assignments will be given in a variety of forms. There will be reading assignments, Internet exercises, and quizzes. A final project will be due before the last day of class. The course outline lists assignments for each class meeting.

Grading

This course can be taken for Credit/No Credit only. The one unit is transferrable to California State Universities. Grading will be based on the satisfactory completion of all assignments, quizzes and a final project.

Important Information

If you must miss a class or decide to drop this course at any point please notify me as soon as possible.
We have the right to drop you after 2 unapproved absences, however you should not count on automatically being dropped.
***Copying other students work will be considered plagiarism and will result in an automatic drop.
