Making
the Most of Subject Searching
 |
The
advantage of a subject search is that it provides a more focused
search. |
 |
Its
disadvantage is that it's hard to know what LCSH term will
be used for a topic. |
| |
One good strategy is to browse the Library of Congress Subject
Headings books, but they are only at the Library. So here
is what we recommend you do with the Library Catalog, itself: |
-
First, use your own terms in a "Words or Phrase" search.
- Then look
at the records for books that are on your topic.
- Jot down
any good subject terms that are listed and use them later in subject
searches or
- Click on
the linked subject term.
Subject Headings are found either on the right side of your search
results, or to find ones more like a specific book or audiovisual
material, click on Details for that item and then click on
the Catalog Record tab.
