TERM PROJECT:  My Web Page (Teenage Pregnancy)

Site #1: COLLEGE LIBRARY Site

The site has a very large and useful links.  The content of the site has been established/sponsored by educational institutions, which in this case is the University of Wisconsin (Library).  The site contains some documents that are facts that had been fully supported by our experts, media, such as New York Times Magazine, Wisconsin State Journal etc… The site is also well organized and well maintained.

The main purpose of the site is to mainly give information and some help to those teenagers who are on such situation.  In this case, they can be provided some good help in case they are not aware of things that they must do.  By looking at this site also, the resources are mostly up to date which explains some old and recent situation regarding this specific topic for “teenage pregnancy”.  I would actually recommend this type of site to any teenagers that I know that is dealing with the same situation because it will be such a useful site for them.

SITE #2: NPIN FULL-TEXT RESOURCES Site

The NPIN stands for National Parent Information Network.  It is an organization that was established to provide help information to teenagers and members of any family.  The site is well organized in an alphabetical manner.  Each letter of the alphabet contains links that discuss stories and personal opinions on past and currents issues involving teenage pregnancy.  The site is well organized and was last modified (updated) on May 14,2001.

This site was designed mainly providing the viewers some articles (full-text) information regarding the topic and does not ask for any donation or any membership sign-ups like other sites.  This site will be useful to a viewer who seeks some research about teenage pregnancy.  Most links on this site was designed to present documents only, unlike other sites which takes you to another site, then to another site.

Site #3: BOSTON UNIVERSITY Site

This site contains some good links and useful information but at the moment, it is being updated and the link (URL) that it should be assigned to move is not quite done on setting it up.  Also some links doesn’t really quite bring you to where it should link you to.  The site is established by organizations which their main concern is the people’s “Health during Pregnancy.”  The site provides us some information and informational facts to what pregnant people should do as far as what to eat, what to avoid, what to do and not to do during pregnancy.

The site is most likely had been updated just very recently because as I evaluate this site, I saw a link which wasn’t updated since last June of 2000.  The information is generally helpful still even though the site is not being well maintained because the information that are provided are used for general type of situations.  If I was to recommend this site to anyone, it probably would be the least one since the authority for it is not really stated as clear as the other site, but some information can be useful.

Site #4: STATE BY STATE INFORMATION Site

This site is a considerable site for it is to inform you some good facts information depending on which state you live in.  This very informing site contains some written facts with graphing table to explain and show some calculation regarding the population counts comparing the people who are involved to our topic, teenage pregnancy.  The site’s accuracy is not currently updated.  It was last updated on April 1999.  It is organized with links explaining the calculations thru tables.

The site is mainly giving information to public, and was put together by an organization and sponsored by “The Alan Guttmacher Institute”, an institute which sells publications to advertise.  Comparing this to other sites that I presented, this one contain such publication to which, in order to go further along with the research, some link can or may be associated with some institutes or organization that will somehow try to make you pay or give any donation in order to get the information viewers need.  The information provided is valid, and can be useful (for the safety of following state policy) but, will not really give such strong, solid, good information for a pregnant teenager.

Site #5: HEALTH ORGANIZATION Site

This final site on my web evaluation mostly focuses on “Evidence-Based Clinical Prevention”.  This website is designed to serve as a practical guide to health care providers, planners and consumers for determining the inclusion or exclusion, content and frequency of a wide variety of preventive health interventions, using the evidence-based recommendations of the Canadian Task Force on Preventive Health Care (CTFPHC).  The site is very good and contains a lot of useful information which provides all facts and tested information in regards to people’s health. It provides all the general information you’ll ever need in preventing getting infected with serious health problems.  With its information, the organization even organized some charts and tables showing some examples of their studies and examination in proving their theories.

The Accuracy of the site is well organized and is updated.  The information they provided are very useful and very clear.  By the way they organized this site, anyone who visits the site will be happy for all the information they will get because, everything that is provided is based on their studies and it has been studied by our experts, M.D., PH d, and other clinical/medical associates.  The content and coverage of the site to my conclusion is very useful and valid.  I would recommend this site to the people I know who would need these type of information.

CONCLUSION:  This web evaluation project has taught me a lot of valuable things that we all must consider.  We, as viewers and users of the internet must know how to evaluate a website because anyone can put anything in the web and we wouldn't know if the site we are looking at is either valid or fake which can or may hurt as at the end as a result.  A good reason to consider it is, when it comes to people's lives, if you get the wrong information from the web and unknowingly that the information are bogus, you could end up loosing a person's life.  A few minutes, can make a big difference. ***  To conclude my Term Project, First of all, I would like to thank my Instructor - Norman Buchwald for giving students chance to apply all the knowledge that we learn by his excellent way of teaching.  A good understanding for some students who are somewhat in need of guidance, which gives that student more motivation and courage to work much harder and be inspired that, that's the only way the student can show his instructor that he appreciates the chance that was given to him and that's the only way he can thank his instructor, is by not letting his instructor down and doing the best he can offer for that one last chance.
