Recently the Chabot College Art Department added a brand new art gallery to its roster of fine facilities. Along with the gallery, the college is also pleased to offer a new class, Museum Studies (Art 6), which allows students to treat that gallery as a laboratory where they receive hands-on training in the registrarial, preparatorial, curatorial and promotional side of museum work. Museum Studies students first learn museum history and theory, and then get to work designing and hanging an actual show of Chabot student artwork, to which the campus and larger East Bay community is invited. Such training is rarely offered at the community college level, and therefore we are particularly pleased to have the opportunity to share this wonderful opportunity with our students.
