  • PACE is a multi-semester Learning Community designed for people who work daytime jobs. Learn more about PACE.
  • NEW STUDENTS: Classes marked with an * (in CRN column) are recommended for students new to college.
  • COURSE LOAD: Most full-time working adults can manage 1-3 classes per semester. One 3-unit class requires about 9 hours of work per week (3 hours of class time plus about 6 hours of study, although this differs from class to class).
    Take a class load that is realistic for you  & your life!
  • PACE alternates some classes in an effort to offer both in-person and online classes so students can select their preferred method with some advance planning. See notes in CRN column to identify these courses.
  • If there are any changes to this schedule after printing (such as Room numbers), CLASS-Web has the most current info.
  • REGISTER at CLASS-Web or in-person at Student Online Services (Bldg. 700 Lobby).

Arts & Humanities

For an AA Degree, you need at least one of these classes. If you plan to transfer to CSU, you need one Arts class (Music 8 or formerly offered Architecture 14 are both considered “Arts” classes) PLUS one Humanities class (Ethnic Studies 5, Humanities 60, Religious Studies 50 or 65, or Humanities 68 are all considered “Humanities classes) PLUS a third class that is either Arts or Humanities.

Ethnic Studies 5 - OP1 Critiquing Race and Gender in Popular Culture- 3 units
A critical examination of representations of people of color in popular culture, from historically significant to contemporary
examples. Using an intersectional lens of race, ethnicity, gender, class, and sexuality, students will analyze representations from
mainstream films, independent cultural productions, music, visual art, and social media, and how characters and communities of color are portrayed and interpret these images as consumers of media. Topics include Hollywood stereotyping, media influencing political and social events, cultural citizenship, and the role of new media, such as video games and social media platforms like YouTube. Students will learn how to critically examine and thoughtfully compare works, while using the lenses of race, ethnicity, gender, sexuality, and class to break down decode messages. 3 hours. CSU & UC transferable. Statistics  as applied to the behavioral and social sciences. Psychology 4-EPN Brain, Mind And Behavior - 3 units.

This course introduces the scientific study of the biological bases of behavior and its fundamental role in the neurosciences. Physiological, hormonal, and neurochemical mechanisms, and brain-behavior relationships underlying the psychological phenomena of sensation, perception, regulatory processes, emotion, learning, memory, neurological, developmental, and psychological disorders will be addressed. The course also notes  historical scientific contributions and current research principles for studying brain-behavior relationships and mental processes.   • For a Liberal Arts Major (Emphasis in Social and Behavioral Sciences) take a minimum of 18 units in Social Science (includes History and Anthropology 1). 
  • For a Behavioral Science Major take: Anthropology 1, Psych 1, Soc 1 plus 9 additional units in Anthropology, Psychology or Sociology (such as Psych 33, Soc 4, Psych 5). 
  • For Transfer to CSU or UC take a minimum of 9 units Social Science classes (including History)

  • Minimum 1 unit Physical Education activity course ADPE, ATHL, PEAC is required for an AA Degree. PE is not offered via PACE, so see CLASS-Web for course info – some PACE students like PEAC HER1 “Heart Rate Training”, or PEAC WLK1 “Walking for Fitness” which are offered online. PE Exemption is allowed for: 1) illness or physical disability by requesting a waiver in the Counseling Division, with a physician’s statement, 2) Students who hold an AA/AS degree or higher, and 3) Students completing CSU-GE, and using this for their General Education pattern for the AA/AS degree (approved beginning Fall 2020). 
  • AA Degree requires a minimum of 60 units, plus completion of all requirements for the degree desired, and a minimum of 12 units completed at Chabot.
