APPRENTICESHIP

Electrical Apprenticeship Training

Chabot College in partnership with the Alameda County Joint Apprenticeship Training Committee (JATC) offers courses leading to certification as an Inside Wireman. Registration is limited to those students fulfilling the related instruction requirements of the State of California as an indentured apprentice. Courses use the state-of-the-art JATC training facility located at 3033 Alvarado Street San Leandro, CA 94577

Career opportunities: Inside wiremen install electrical service, establish grounding systems, establish power distribution, install raceway systems and wiring, provide power and controls to motors, and install receptacles, lighting systems, and fixtures in commercial, industrial, and residential construction. Employment opportunities in this field are tied to the construction trade industry. Students who successfully complete this program receive journeyman status as an Inside Wireman.

Required preparation: at least 18 years of age; high school diploma or G.E.D.; one semester of college-level algebra with a grade of C or higher.

A.S. Degree: The major core courses for this program are ten four-unit classes that are required for apprentices to complete in order to be eligible for journeyman status. Apprentices and journeyman can take additional general breadth coursework to obtain an associate degree from Chabot College. (Hint: Online classes can be valuable for busy professionals)

Recommended Courses: Ten APEL apprenticeship Major courses (40 units total) and 20 additional units including the required general breadth classes as listed on /Counseling/AS.pdf A minimum of 60 units is required for a degree.
