FAQs

What is Kids on Campus Summer Camp?
It’s a program designed to give students entering 3rd to 8th grades a unique learning experience right on a college campus. Over a three-week period, they will have the opportunity to take challenging and enriching courses to stimulate their curiosity and reinforce their basic skills. But mostly, it will be lots of fun!

What is the camp schedule?
The Kids on Campus program runs Mondays through Thursdays, the weeks of July 6-10, July 13-17, and July 20-24. There are three sessions in each day, with 15 minutes in between morning sessions and a supervised lunch-and-play time between morning and afternoon sessions. The sessions run from 9 a.m.-3 p.m. and there is an optional Kids’ Club following the camp.

What is the Kids’ Club?
The Kids’ Club is an after-camp program that runs from 3:15 to 5:15 p.m. Campers have the option of participating in Arts & Crafts or Sports & Fitness, and have the option of changing activities at the start of each day. The Kids’ Club is $59 a week (which comes to under $6.50 an hour) and must be taken in week-long sessions and pre-paid. To sign-up, please return the form in your registration packet.

Will you have camp orientations?
Yes! For your convenience, we will offer an orientation session for parents and campers on Saturday, June 20, from 2-3 p.m. in Building 1200, Room 1232 on campus for parents and campers. You may turn in your Student Conduct, Medical Release, and Camper Check-in forms at orientation, as well as pick up your child’s official camp T-shirt and Water Bottle. Camp orientation is not mandatory, but it is an excellent way for you and your child to feel more comfortable on the first day. Please call Kim at (510) 723-7531 and let her know if you will be attending.

When do we get the T-shirt and Frisbee?
You may either pick up the T-shirt and Frisbee at the orientation session or your child will receive it on the first day of camp when they (or a parent) hand in their redemption ticket at the Community Education Office in Villa A (see Campus Map below).

How will I know where to go when I arrive on campus?
If you attended our orientation sessions, you will be familiar with the procedures. Otherwise, be sure to bring your Camp Confirmation Form, which includes the Campus Map, and go directly to your child’s first-period class. The room numbers coincide with the building numbers; for example, Room 317 is in Building 300; Room 1008 is in Building 1000. Also, if it’s a two-story building, the even-numbered classes are downstairs, the odd-numbers are upstairs. If you have trouble finding your way or have any other questions, just go to the courtesy table set up in front of the Villas (see Campus Map below) and our staff will be happy to assist you.

Does my child need to be signed in and out every day?
Yes. For security purposes, all children must be signed in every day by a parent or guardian at their child’s first-period class and signed out at the end of the day at their child’s third-period class or at 5:15 at the Kids’ Club. If you would like to give permission for your child to sign him/herself in and out, please sign the Camper Check-In/Check-Out Permission Form on the bottom of the Student Conduct form and return it to us before camp begins either by mail or at our camp orientation session. Campers need to be picked up promptly at 3 p.m. unless they are going to the Kids’ Club in which case they will be escorted to that room and should picked up at 5:15 p.m. sharp. Please do not go into the classroom before the class is over and keep your voice down if you are waiting outside the classroom.

Can I drop off my child early?
No. We do not offer any supervision before the camp begins at 9 a.m.

What if my child is absent, late, or I need to pick him/her up early?
If you know that your child will not be keeping regular camp hours, please call us at (510) 723-7531 or 723-6665 to let us know. If your child will be picked up early, besides calling us, please also write a note and have your child give it to the instructor at the beginning of class to minimize class disruption.

What should my child bring to camp?
Each day, please provide a bag lunch that doesn’t require refrigeration, a morning and afternoon snack (more if in the Kids’ Club), and sufficient water/drinks for the day. Make sure bag lunches are clearly labeled with your child’s name. If your child is taking math or language arts class, please have them bring a notebook, pencils, and thin-point markers; if they are taking an art class, they may want to bring a cover-up for their clothes. If they need anything more specific, the instructor will let them know on the first day.

Will my child be supervised?
Yes, all the time. There will be a camp counselor in every class along with the instructor. The counselor will attend to any needs of the students as well as escort them to their next class. In addition, the counselors will supervise the lunchtime activities.

How many students are there in each class?
Most classes will have 20-25 students or less. A few can accommodate up to 30.

What is your behavior policy?
All campers are expected to conduct themselves in a manner that demonstrates courtesy and respect for others and facilitates learning. Disruptive students will be dismissed from the program and the parents will be contacted to pick them up. We ask that you and your child both carefully read and understand the Student Conduct Form. The Student Conduct Form must be returned to us, signed by both you and your child, before camp begins.

May I attend class with my child?
No, sorry. We ask that you do not go into the classroom while class is in session so the instructor and students are not disrupted. However, many of the camps have either projects to take home or presentations to give on the last day of camp which you will be invited to attend. If you come early to pick up your child, please be aware that there are regular college classes going on in the building and we ask that you keep your voices down.

Can the children keep their cell phones on during class?
No. Please ask your child to set the phone to silent mode or turn it off during class.
