1st Period – 9-10:30 a.m.
Elementary Math: Multicultural Math (entering 3rd-4th grades)
In “Multicultural Math,” you’ll refresh your math skills while playing games
from other countries like Mancala and Madagascar Solitaire, and solve math
puzzles from around the world. Students will gain a deep understanding of
math in a social and fun environment. Strategies and team work will be
emphasized.

Elementary Math II: Brush Up on Basics (entering 5th-6th grades)
Brush up on your basic math skills with a hands-on approach and learn catchy
ways to remember your lessons. We’ll work with whole numbers, decimals,
integers, fractions and more! Geometric shapes and formulas will be a breeze
with fun games.

Middle School Math: Incredible Integers (entering 7th-8th grades)
Through games and activities, you will review the basic definitions of
numbers (integers, rational, real, prime, etc.), brush up on the order of
operations and how to combine like terms, review simple methods for solving
equations, and do activities based on graphs, as well as the number line
coordinate system. Worksheets based on each day’s work will be taken home
each day.

Act it Out!: Drama Workshop
Enter the wonderful world of theater where you can explore your
creative side and gain the confidence to get up on stage! This camp will
combine acting, theater games, activities, storytelling and more. You will
discover and participate in different kinds of theater, including drama,
comedy, and improvisation just like on “Whose Line is It Anyway?” Budding
actors will have the opportunity to practice their stage presence in
Chabot’s Little Theater where you’ll perform for your family and friends
during the last session of camp.

Crazy Chemistry
Get ready for an exciting adventure in the world of chemistry right
in Chabot’s science lab. Build a balloon rocket that will travel across the
classroom, grow a crystal tree with your choice of colors, create an oozing
batch of Lime Slime, experience the Mentos explosion in a bottle, find out a
cool way of making ice cream, and join in the popular egg-drop competition
(from the second floor!)

Fun with Spanish
Learn highlights of the Spanish language as well as the richness of
the Hispanic culture, traditions, and celebrations. You will learn typical
Spanish phrases, days of the week, greetings, and numbers, and specific
words to describe some of the games and activities you will be participating
in. You will also learn the names of food items and make things like
tortillas and salsa. Have fun learning songs and making crafts, too!

Language Arts: Webtales (entering 3rd-4th grades)
Blend writing and technology to create “Webtales”--stories that you
will write and publish on a website. You’ll have a chance to use a thesaurus
to find new words, a dictionary to check your spelling, and the chance to
add graphics to make it look great!

You won’t forget that “Great Grammar” when you learn some fun and easy

Spelling). We’ll do it all with fun activities to promote great writing!

In “Non-Fiction News” you will learn about writing real-life
articles as you create a newspaper that is filled with the latest news about

Kids on Campus Weekly News
Attention all future journalists and photojournalists! Be a part of the
Kids On Campus Weekly News. Develop your skills as you divide up your “news
team” to take photos of classes and lunchtime activities; interview fellow
campers, instructors, and counselors—and even the president of Chabot
College! You’ll write your own news, headlines, features, sports stories,
even movie reviews. You’ll put it all together online in the Spectator
newsroom, and have your own online (and printed) newsletter to show your
friends, family, and fellow campers!

Cartooning 101
Turn your everyday doodles into real designs! Learn how to draw all
of your favorite cartoon characters or action figures and even create some
of your own! You will learn basic cartooning techniques for drawing heads,
bodies, hands, feet, expressions, and backgrounds and we’ll talk about the
different places cartoons are used. You will see how “flip books” are
created and you’ll sketch original creations to take home.

Hip Hop: Chabot’s Best Dance Crew
Learn the hottest dance moves of today from an experienced
performer, choreographer, and dance instructor. You’ll try all the latest
techniques and styles such as Popping, Krumping, Break-Dancing, and more
while keeping the beat to the most popular music of today. At the end of the
week, you will perform an “America’s Best Dance Crew” style performance! No
previous experience needed. Wear tennis or soft-soled shoes.

Fashion Design
Want to create an awesome outfit that is individual to your own personal
taste? Take this class and use a variety of materials to turn your favorite
clothes into a reflection of your own creativity. You will use a variety of
materials – fabric paint, glitter, sequins, ribbon, buttons, etc. – to turn
your ordinary jeans, t-shirts, hats or whatever you want into a
personalized, one-of-a-kind creation. For girls AND boys who want to stand
out in a crowd.

Spy Academy
Look out Agent 007--the Mad Science Spy Academy is here! From decoded
messages to metal detectors and night vision, campers will have the
opportunity to check out spy equipment and even create their own edible
message. Step into the shoes of a detective as you uncover the science
involved in evidence gathering and analysis. Figure out the science of
forensics in a hands-on look at crime scenes. Become a super spy and learn
clever ways of performing tasks as we take a hands-on approach to the
science that spies use. The take-home projects for this camp were designed
specially by Q himself.

Sports of All Sorts
Spend the last period of camp getting out all of your extra energy!
You’ll play dodge ball (everyone’s favorite!), learn to play Ultimate
Frisbee (using your camp souvenir!), and have the chance to participate in
all kinds of sports and games throughout the week, from basketball and
soccer, to kickball and track activities, to Capture the Flag and games of
your choice you may want to share with others to enjoy. (If it gets really
hot, we may get out the water balloons to keep cool!)

Like Picasso
Or like Andy Warhol…or Van Gogh…or Frida Kahlo…or other artists. In this
fun and inspiring painting class, you’ll create your own works of art based
on styles of the artists who made them famous. Plus you’ll learn fascinating
facts about the artists themselves. You’ll create your own geometric-style
of Picasso’s Cubism, make an Andy Warhol pop art masterpiece, paint the
visible strokes of Van Gogh’s Impressionism, and experience the dream-like
Surrealism style of Frida Kahlo. Make your own contribution to the art
world!

Make Your Own Music Video!
You too can be a rock star…or a rap star…or whatever music you like! Go
behind the scenes at Chabot’s own television studio and learn what it takes
to produce a music video from a professional videographer. You will plan
your song and theme, select classmates as extras, and choose a background
and visual effects. You will take home your own personal DVD of your video
and play it at home for your friends and family.

Baking for Kids I : Sweets & Snacks
It’s time to put on your chef’s hat and learn to bake! On each day,
you will learn to make something scrumptious—and then enjoy it! You’ll make
sweets like cookies and cupcakes and cinnamon buns, snacks like
make-your-own pizzas and pretzels with various toppings, and much more!
You’ll also create your own individual cookbook which will include all of
the recipes plus your own creative flair! (There will be different recipes
in Weeks 1 & 2 so take both classes!) Besides learning the basics of baking,
you’ll learn about kitchen tools and equipment and safety in the kitchen.
