Minutes for Meeting: May 18, 2010

(Attendees: Ramona Silver(chair), Norman Buchwald, Richard Dinwiddie, Mary Dermody, Desmond Chun, Aldrian Estepa, Michael Langdon, Jan Novak, Lisa Ulibarri, Minta Winsor, Wanda Wong and Sherri Yeager)

1). Student Success Updates: The Committee members reviewed the data collected by Rajinder Samra that compared student success between face-to-face and online classes. The committee discussed the need to facilitate ways to improve student success for faculty. However, the committee also wanted to ask Rajinder Samra to collect data for online and face-to-face courses taught by the same instructor. The COOL members feel that this would be a more accurate assessment. Rajinder Samra will be attending one of our COOL meetings in September of 2010 to answer more of our questions.

2). Committee Goals for Fall 2010: Each of the Committee members offered ideas for our Goals list for Fall 2010. The list includes, facilitating student success, sharing great online teaching ideas, exploring the technology of the future in education, to continue pursuit of a fully online degree, examining social networking of students and several more ideas and goals. The committee will continue to update this list through the Summer. The Chair will send the completed list to the COOL members at the end of our semester.

3). Final Updates on Online/Hybrid Course Demonstrations for Spring 2010: We have completed and approved all of our course demonstrations except for Adrian Huang's Architecture 12. Because, Professor Huang's course will not go live until 2011 and thus there is extra time for his review team to do it with him in the Fall 2010 semester.

4). The Chair adjourned the meeting and offered thanks to each member of the committee for all of their hard work over the academic year. Additionally, she thanked them for giving her the opportunity to be their Chair again for the 2010-11 year.

Next Meeting is Scheduled for Tuesday August 31, 2010 at Noon in the IOB 405!
