What's Your Chabot Story?

I am from San Leandro and went to Moreau Catholic High School in Hayward, while I was in high school I began to take classes at Chabot during the summers. I graduated in 2018 and attended Arizona State University for my Freshman year of college. While I was away at school my perspective on college changed and I decided that I wanted to come home to finish my Sophmore year with the hopes of transferring to a different four year university. Since being at Chabot this school year I have completed my AA-T in Sociology with a 4.0 GPA and worked two jobs. One of the two jobs I have been working is here at Chabot as a Counseling Assistant working in the Transfer Center and supporting the Peer Advising Program. I will be attending UC Davis in the Fall as a Junior with a Sociology major.

How did Chabot influence your life and career?

When I first began at Chabot I viewed it as a stepping stone to get to where I really wanted to end up. Little did I know that Chabot would end up being a place I loved and a essential part of my development as a student and young woman. I am so grateful for my time here and all of the amazing people I have met along the way. Although I will no longer be a student at Chabot the lessons I have learned both in and out of the classroom will stay with me forever.

Why should anyone transfer?

There are a ton of reasons why one should transfer and it is usually very personal. For me I wanted to transfer from Chabot so I could attend my dream school and get the best education possible. Attending a California Junior College is an amazing opportunity within itself but it is designed to provide further amazing opportunities by promoting students to transfer to competitive universities. By attending Chabot you are given the tools to go out and be successful at any school you want to attend, so have faith in your ability and go get that degree!

Shout Outs and/or Words of Wisdom?

I would like to thank Heather Oshiro, Frances Fon, and the entire Counseling Department at Chabot College for guiding me through the challenging process of transferring. Your support, time, and effort is greatly appreciated.

To any one who is considering attending community college (Chabot specifically) or is attending currently, I encourage you to get involved and immerse yourself into the school community. Not only will it help you to transfer but it will give you a sense of community and belonging that is unqiue to the CCC experince. Chabot is an amazing place with amazing opportunities, make sure you take advantage of it all and contribute the amazing things you have to offer.
