Transfer Story - Roselena Mejia-Campos
ROSELENA MEJIA-CAMPOS | AA-T SOCIOLOGY | SOCIOLOGY, UC DAVIS
What's Your Chabot Story?
I came to Chabot right after I graduated high school a couple of years ago. I chose to go to a community college because going straight to a CSU or a UC was too expensive for my family and I.
How did Chabot influence your life and career?
Chabot helped me re-discover the motivation to move forward with my education that I thought I had lost. For the first year or so in community college, I wasn't sure whether or not I wanted to continue going to school and I was still pretty much undecided on a major and so my grades were suffering. It wasn't until I took my first sociology class that I knew that I wanted to pursue a career in that field. I was so eager to learn more about it and I enjoyed the classes so much, that it pushed me to get my grades up and I knew I wanted to transfer to a university. With hard work and dedication and a lot of all-nighters, I got accepted to my number one school; UC Davis.
Why should anyone transfer?
Any and everyone should try to transfer, not only so that they can get that experience, but to further their education, rack up degrees if possible, and secure a future for yourself and your family. Accomplishing a goal, such as transferring, is a big achievement and looking back at my success here in Chabot will only fuel me more and push me to succeed elsewhere.
Shout Outs and/or Words of Wisdom?
Huge shout out to my counselor Michael Lai for helping me in my journey here in Chabot. Being a first-gen, his help with choosing my courses for the next semester and with my college apps and essays, and words of encouragement, were the support I needed.
