Nursing Program
The Nursing Program is approved by the California Board of Registered
Nursing. Upon completion of the major, the graduate is eligible to take
the National Council Licensing Examination for Registered Nurses
(NCLEXRN) The program prepares graduates who can contribute to the
advancement of nursing science and influence changes in a variety of
settings within the health care system. The graduate possesses a
repertoire of knowledge, skills, and attributes that serve as the
foundation for safe, competent practice and lifelong learning.

To progress in the Nursing Program
and to graduate from the program, students must earn a minimum grade of
"C" in each course of the nursing major.

Registered Nursing Requirements for licensure: 78 units including 45
units in nursing.
SPECIAL APPLICATION REQUIRED:
Prerequisites for admission to this program include: (1)
completion of special application; (2) completion of Anatomy 1 (General
Human Anatomy), Physiology 1 (Human Physiology), and Microbiology 1
(each of which includes a lab). You can earn only one "C" in combination of the three courses. A minimum 2.5 GPA is required.
Students who have completed all three prerequisite science
courses prior to December 31 may submit an application prior to January 5.
However, the following stipulations are in effect:
Fall 2012 a merit based selection will be used. Please review the Criterion Score or Eligibility worksheet to determine your eligibility for the program. Sixty students are admitted each fall. We do not maintain a wait list. Applicants not selected must re-apply each year.
TEAS Version V (Test of Essential Academic Skills) through Assessment Technologies Institute is required but you do not need to complete the test to apply to the program. First 120 merit ranked students will be notified of date and time of the test. To enter the program your "Adjusted Individual Score" must be 62% or higher in Fall 2012. We are accepting your first attempt or the last test taken. If you do not pass the test verification of remediation courses is required.
LVN-RN Program (AA, Non-Degree, and 30 Unit Options)
Chabot College offers a program to assist Licensed Vocational Nurses to achieve eligibility to sit the National Council Licensing Examination for Registered Nursing (NCLEX - RN). Licensed Vocational Nurses holding a current license to practice in California and hae worked for one year are eligible to apply to the program. It is possible to earn an Associate in Arts degree while completing the program, although it is not a requirement for eligibility to take the NCLEX - RN.
Student must complete science pre-requisites, Physiology 1 and Microbiology. All nursing students must take and pass the TEAS Version V with 62% prior to entry to the program. A mandatory orientation for this program only is held in December and May of each year. See nursing program website for dates. Advanced standing status may be granted to students who have previously
completed any portion of the defined nursing curriculum or its
equivalent as determined by the Counselor/Coordinator for Health,
Physical Education and Athletics.
GRADUATES OF THIS PROGRAM RECEIVE AN ASSOCIATE IN ARTS DEGREE IN
NURSING, AND ARE ELIGIBLE TO TAKE THE NATIONAL COUNCIL LICENSING
EXAMINATION FOR REGISTERED NURSING (NCLEX-RN) IN ALL FIFTY STATES.

rights for graduation.
