announcements ANNOUNCEMENTS

The Early Childhood Development program provides students with a fundamental understanding of the principles of early childhood development  as well as experience in the application of these principles.

The Early Childhood Development courses and programs are designed to prepare students for employment in Early Childhood positions.  A broad range of employment opportunities in state supported or private programs are available by fulfilling the various certificates and degree requirements.  Family child care providers can benefit from courses designed to advance their skills both as providers and entrepreneurs of their own in-home business.

The ECD program offers an AA degree in Early Childhood Development, an AA Degree Early Childhood Intervention and an AS-T  transfer degree in Early Childhood Development as well as certificates.  The degrees prepare students to become teachers of young children in a variety of preschool and educational settings.  The program is relevant for preschool and elementary school teachers, educational program directors, recreation leaders, and family child care providers.  Students will have the opportunity to complete their lab hours required by the program in the Early Childhood Lab center on the Chabot campus.

The Early Childhood program offers many support services for their ECD students. We offer ECD courses in Spanish, provide information about the California Child Development permit and help you through the process of applying, have a limited textbook lending library, help you develop an ECD professional development plan, advise you on career options in Early Childhood and have specialized programs for students currently working in an Early Childhood facility.  For more information contact ECD faculty or our Professional Development coordinators.
