Federal Grant Sites

Corporation for Community & Service Learning
A federal agency that administrates programs such as AmeriCorps, Senior Corps, the Social Innovation Fund and the Volunteer Generation Fund.
This website includes all discretionary grants offered by the 26 Federal grant-making agencies. You can search for federal grant opportunities (old and new) and also use the system to apply online. Many federal agencies require that you use this system exclusively to apply for grants while others allow submissions through their own agencies’ systems and

National Science Foundation
This federal agency funds grants related to science, mathematics, and engineering technology.

National Endowment for the Arts
This federal agency funds grants in the arts.

National Endowment for the Humanities (NEH)
This federal agency funds grants in humanities disciplines.

U.S. Department of Commerce, National Telecommunications and Information Administration
This federal office funds grants in telecommunications.

U.S. State Department
This federal office funds the Fulbright Programs and grants for fostering international education.

U.S. Department of Health and Human Services, Health Resources and Services Administration
This federal office funds grants to improve health and allied health education programs.

U.S. Department of Education
This federal agency funds grants in a variety of educational areas–including secondary education, higher education and vocational/adult education.

This federal office funds workforce development grants.

Youth Service America
Although not a federal agency, this national organization is a Service Learning resource center that partners with thousands of organizations committed to increasing the quality and quantity of volunteer opportunities for young people, ages 5-25. Their website lists current grant opportunities that support Service Learning and youth-initiated activities.


California Grant Sites

California Community Colleges, Chancellor’s Office
This state agency in California oversees all 108 community colleges and serves as a primary source of grant funding statewide.

California Community Colleges, Chancellor’s Office – Workforce Development Grants
This site provides additional Economic and Workforce Development grants that may or may not be listed on the CCCCO’s main grants page.

California State Library
This agency administers and hosts grant programs that help make California an information rich, culturally responsive state. Most of the grant programs are competitive, unless announced otherwise. Each grant program housed at the California State Library has its own application processes, criteria, deadlines, and governances.

California Council for the Humanities

This state agency provides grants for public humanities projects, including reading and discussion programs, film and speaker grants, conferences and lecture programs among others.

California Arts Council
This agency provides grants that support the arts.

This site serves as an information clearinghouse for private, corporate, and community foundation funding. Grant seekers will also find funding research and grant writing tutorials as well as general information about the nonprofit sector on this website. CCINET is the Corporate Community Involvement site from the Charities Aid Foundation. The site provides links to hundreds of businesses that support their communities through giving programs.

The Chronicle of Philanthropy
The Chronicle is the newspaper of the nonprofit world. Visitors to this website can subscribe (at a cost) to the chronicle’s guide to grants, an electronic database of corporate and foundation grant listed in the periodical since 1995.
