Making the Most of Subject Searching

smile The advantage of a subject search is that it provides a more focused search.
frown Its disadvantage is that it's hard to know what LCSH term will be used for a topic.

One good strategy is to browse the Library of Congress Subject Headings books, but they are only at the Library.  So here is what we recommend you do with the Library Catalog, itself:
  1. First, use your own terms as a regular keyword search.
  2. Then look at the records for books, etc. that are on your topic.
  3. Jot down any good subject terms that are listed and use them later in subject searches or
  4. Click on the linked subject term.
