General Information about Online/Hybrid Course Offerings

An online course will cover the same content as the traditional (on-campus, face-to-face) version of a course; only the method of delivery is different. Most online courses are not self-paced; there are usually due dates throughout the semester that you are expected to meet, much like in a traditional class. Active participation is required. Note that online courses often require a great deal of reading and writing. Therefore, it is recommended that you are English 1A eligible or have take English 1A (or equivalent) prior to taking an online class.

Most online or hybrid courses at Chabot use the Blackboard course management system as a “virtual classroom.” To learn how to log in to Blackboard, go to the How to Begin an Online Course page. Note that enrolled students usually will not be able to login to Blackboard until the first day of class. 
 

Important Information about Participation in Online Courses

PLEASE NOTE: An instructor may drop students who miss the first meeting of a course. The first meeting of online or hybrid courses is the first day of the class as specified in the class schedule listing and may be an on-campus meeting. 

Instructors also may drop students who do not log into a Blackboard course site and/or complete assigned activities by the third day of classes.
 

Course Materials and Technology Requirements

To take an online course, you must have daily access to a computer with an Internet connection and experience using a web browser. You must also have an email address. Chabot College provides a Zonemail email address to all students. If you choose to use another email address for your Chabot Communications, please update your email address within CLASS Web. Also note that some instructors require students to purchase an access code (often along with the required text book) that unlocks digital resources required for the class. Example include resources from McGraw-Hill Connect, Cengage, and MyMathLab. Please see the online Schedule of Classes for the most current schedule of online/hybrid course offerings. Any on-campus meetings or requirements for the course will be listed in the schedule of classes.

Also check the college catalog for the Course Description, Prerequisites, and CSU/UC transferability and to see if a course meets AA/AS degree requirements before you register.

If you are looking to add an online course after registration/waitlist has closed, you will need to email the instructor directly to inquire about adding.
