New Zonemail and Blackboard

NEW FOR SUMMER AND FALL 2009: Students now have the option of receiving Blackboard emails through their Zonemail account, or through a personal account of their choosing. If you prefer not to receive Blackboard emails through your zonemail account, follow the simple steps below.

How to get started - Setup your email address for Blackboard

ALL STUDENTS: In order to receive email from your instructors, you must determine which email account you want to use for Blackboard. The default email address posted in Blackboard is zonemail. Students will automatically receive school emails through their Zonemail account unless changed to a personal account. You can choose between one of the following:

• OPTION #1: Use the campus-provided zonemail account (this is the default email address in Blackboard). Find out how to access your new zonemail account.
   
• OPTION #2: Leave zonemail as your default email address in CLASS-Web and Blackboard, but forward all email to your personal email account
   
• OPTION #3: Use your existing personal email account. You will need to enter your email address in CLASS-Web. Follow the 5 steps below.

  1) Login to CLASS-Web
  2) Select "What is my email address?"
  3) Select "Update Email Address"
  4) Under "Type of E-mail to Insert" select "Email for Blackboard" and press "Submit"
  5) Enter the email address in the field next to "E-mail" and press "Submit"

There are two ways to access your zonemail account:

Access your email via The Zone web portal:

1. Log into The Zone by entering your CLASS-Web username/password, (your W number, and PIN).
    
2. Once you're in, click the Email icon, and you will see a Google login screen. Continue on to step 2 below.

Or, access your zonemail at http://stumail.clpccd.edu

1. Instead of logging into The Zone web portal, you can go directly to http://stumail.clpccd.edu
    
2. Enter your zonemail username, which will be in the format of first initial of first name, middle name initial, last name.

   Example for Maria Tina Valdez: mtvaldez

   NOTE: If you don’t have a middle name, an “x” will be placed there (example: mxvaldez)

   NOTE: If another student has the same name as you, a four-digit number will be added after your name. (Example for two students with the name Maria Tina Valdez: mtvaldez0001, mtvaldez0002, etc.)
    

3. Enter your password, which is the same as your PIN for The Zone and CLASS-Web.
    
4. Your college email address will be your Gmail username followed by @zonemail.clpccd.edu. The clpccd stands for Chabot-Las Positas Community College District. The .edu represents an educational institution.

   Example for Maria Tina Valdez: mtvaldez@zonemail.clpccd.edu

1. Log into The Zone
2. Click on the Email icon.
3. Enter your Gmail username and password (see above).
4. Go to Settings - Forwarding and POP/IMAP
5. Click the radio button in front of “Forward a copy of incoming mail to”
6. Enter an email address in the adjacent text box.
7. Click Save Changes at the bottom.

Changing your password (optional)

If you want to change your password, click Settings, then Accounts, then Change Password.

How to Access Blackboard through The Zone (optional)

One purpose of The Zone is to create a "one-stop" location for you to login and access multiple systems (CLASS-Web, Blackboard, Financial Aid, Library, etc.) of the College, reducing the multiple times required for you to login.

1. Log into The Zone with your W number and PIN
2. Click the Blackboard tab at the top
3. Click the link on the left to access Blackboard
4. The first time you do this, The Zone will take you to an External Account Synchronization page where you need to enter your Blackboard password in order to synchronize Blackboard with The Zone:

5. Enter your Blackboard username and password. If you have not used Blackboard before, your Blackboard password is the first two letters of your first name, followed by the first two letters of your last name (all lowercase), followed by the last four digits of your User Identification (“W”) Number.
   
   For example, Maria Tina Valdez with a User Identification Number of W98765432 would log into Blackboard as:
   
   Username: W98765432
   Password: mava5432 (all lowercase letters + last four digits)
    
6. Click Save Account Information after you do this.

Login to Blackboard directly

You can bypass The Zone to log into Blackboard directly by going to http://clpccd.blackboard.com or by going to the college web site and following the links to the Blackboard login page. If you’ve used Blackboard previously, your login information will still work. If you are new to Blackboard, use the login format above, then change your password in Blackboard by clicking Personal Information on your My Institution page, then click Change Password. Enter a new password, verify it, and click Submit.
