Blackboard and Email, Zonemail, & The Zone

In order to receive email from your instructors, you must first determine which email account you want to be associated with your Blackboard account. Keep in mind that the email account you use for Blackboard should be checked regularly to ensure that you do not miss important emails from your instructors.

The default email address posted in Blackboard is your Chabot-provided Zonemail email address, but you have the option to either foward Zonemail email to another account OR change the email address associated with your Blackboard account to a personal account.

What is the email address posted for my Blackboard account?

Students can verify which email account is posted for them in Blackboard by following the steps below:

  1. Login to Blackboard
  2. Before you click on any course link, click on Personal Information from the Tools box on the left.

  1. Click Edit Personal Information
  2. Next to "Email" you should see the email account posted for you in Blackboard. Anytime an instructor sends you email from within Blackboard, email will be sent to this address.

How to change your email account listed in Blackboard

The default email address posted in Blackboard is your Zonemail. If you would like to change the email posted for you in Blackboard, you will need to change the email account settings in CLASS-Web:

  1. Login to Class-Web

  2. Select "What is my email address?"

  3. Select "Update Email Address"

    • If you DO see an email address under "Email for Blackboard," click on the email address to edit. Retype the new email address and click Submit."

    • If you DO NOT see a field "Email for Blackboard," click on the drop-down arrow for the "Type of E-mail to Insert," select "Email for Blackboard." Press "Submit."

The new email address should take effect in Blackboard in about 2 hours, although the change may take up to 24 hours.

What is my Zonemail email address?

Students should receive information about their Zonemail upon registration.

Students can always find out your zonemail address by logging into CLASS-Web with your W ID and six digit PIN, and then clicking on the Main Menu click and then the link “What is my email address?”

Note: Your zonemail address contains "@zonemail.clpccd.edu" in the address.

How to Access Your Zonemail email account

There are two ways to access your Zonemail; either through the campus portal, named "The Zone," or you can access your email directly by way of a login page. Access to either are available at the bottom of the Chabot College home page:

 

 Below is a quick video as well as text instructions for accessing your zonemail.

There are two ways to access your Zonemail:

OPTION #1: Access your email via the Zone:

  1. Log into The Zone by entering your CLASS-Web username/password, (your W number, and PIN).
     
  2. Once you're in, click the Email icon, and you will see a Google login screen. Continue on to step 2 below.

OPTION #2: Access your email directly at http://stumail.clpccd.edu.

  1. Enter your Zonemail username, which will be in the format of first initial of first name, middle name initial, last name (example: Maria Tina Valdez would be mtvaldez).
  • If you don’t have a middle name, an “x” will be placed there (example: mxvaldez.
  • If another student has the same name as you, a four-digit number will be added after your name. (Example for two students with the name Maria Tina Valdez: mtvaldez0001, mtvaldez0002, etc.).
  1. Enter your password, which is the same as your PIN for The Zone and CLASS-Web.

  2. Click "Sign In."

Forwarding your email (optional)

The video directly below shows you how to login to zonemail as well as how to forward zonemail to another email account. Scroll down below the video for text-based instructions.

If you want to forward email sent to your Zonemail to a personal email account, you will need to log into The Zone and set up your college email account so it automatically forwards all emails to your personal account.

  1. Log into The Zone
  2. Click on the Email icon.
  3. Enter your Gmail username and password (see above).
  4. Go to Settings - Forwarding and POP/IMAP
  5. Click the radio button in front of “Forward a copy of incoming mail to”
  6. Enter an email address in the adjacent text box.
  7. Click Save Changes at the bottom.

Changing your Zonemail account password (optional)

If you want to change your password, click Settings, then Accounts, then Change Password.

 

How to Access Blackboard through The Zone (optional)

Chabot-Las Positas Community College District provides a portal that can link your college accounts to one system called the Zone. The Zone is a "one-stop" location for you to login and access multiple systems (CLASS-Web, Blackboard, Financial Aid, Library, etc.) of the College, reducing the multiple times required for you to login.

You have the option to use the Zone to access Blackboard:

  1. Log into The Zone with your W number and PIN
  2. Click the Blackboard tab at the top
  3. Click the link on the left to access Blackboard
  4. The first time you do this, The Zone will take you to an External Account Synchronization page where you need to enter your Blackboard password in order to synchronize Blackboard with The Zone:

 

  1. Enter your Blackboard username and password. If you have not used Blackboard before, your Blackboard password is the first two letters of your first name, followed by the first two letters of your last name (all lowercase), followed by the last four digits of your User Identification (“W”) Number.

    For example, Maria Tina Valdez with a User Identification Number of W98765432 would log into Blackboard as:

    Username: W98765432
    Password: mava5432 (all lowercase letters + last four digits)
     
  2. Click Save Account Information after you do this.
From now on, each time you enter The Zone with your W number and PIN and click the Blackboard link, you will be taken directly to your My Institution page in Blackboard where you can access your courses. The only exception is if you change your password in Blackboard; in this case, The Zone will again ask for your Blackboard password.
