2nd weekly sports recap

The Chabot men's soccer team is off to an electric start under coach Tony Igwe.
The Gladiators entered the week with a 4-0 record, boasting a polished midfield and an abundance of capable scorers.
Chabot (4-0), which has outscored opponents a combined 17-5, will host rival Ohlone on Tuesday, Sept. 13, before hosting Merritt on Friday. Both games will kick off at 4 p.m.
Freshman midfielder Juan Lara leads the Gladiators with four goals and two assists for 10 points, and sophomore midfielder Justyn Raygoza has two goals and three assists for seven points.
In a 6-0 thumping of Siskiyous on Sept. 10, red-hot freshman forward Brandon Sosa had two goals, giving him three goal for the week. Also scoring were Lara, John Sanchez, Nestor Nunez and Victor Xicay. Raygoza, Isaac Mensah and Juan Calderon each had assists.
Sosa also scored the winner in a 2-0 triumph over Napa Valley on Sept. 7, off a Sanchez assist in the 10th minute. Mensah rounded out the scoring in the 65th minute on a Cristian Gonzalez assist. Goalkeepers Alejandro Cervante (four saves) and Erik Ruiz-Hernandez (three saves) combined on the shutout.

The Gladiators (1-3) got into the win column in a big way, with three first-half goals in a 3-1 triumph over Siskiyous on Saturday. 
Olga Montano, Borami Schwartz and Breanna Aranda scored for Chabot, and Bianca Tirado and Liliana Lopez had assists.
Chabot will host Shasta (3-1) at 2 p.m. on Tuesday.

The Gladiators (0-2) played pretty solid defense for the second straight week in a 28-14 loss against visiting Diablo Valley. 
Speedster Leroy Elliott Jr. accounted for both Chabot touchdowns, on receptions of 26 yards and 44 yards from quarterback Johnny O'Brien. DeAngelo Stubbs led the Chabot running attack with 78 yards on 13 carries. Hunter Lake and Josh Revay had two receptions apiece.
Nohea Keahi had a game-high 12 total tackles, and Viliamu Aukusitino had 10 total tackles. A trio of Gladiators had sacks – Aaron Andrews, Keith Alston and Keahi.
Mekai Clarke had Chabot's lone interception.
Chabot coach Danny Calcagno thought his team was great at times, but was punished for a couple of breakdowns. 
"I am really happy to see the development of our defensive unit," he said.
The Gladiators will host Butte (2-1) at 6 p.m. on Saturday. Butte is coming off a 38-20 win over Laney as Alex Laurel and Clayton Welch combined for 221 yards rushing and five touchdowns.

Chabot enjoyed a smashing sweep to open the season, beating Shasta 50-3 and Delta 53-6.
Carsen Paynter, Christian Chacon and Raymond Monela were all impressive double-winners. Paynter won by technical fall over Quinn Hall of Shasta 18-3 at 149 pounds, and also prevailed by fall in 2:45. Chacon and Monela also won twice by fall at 133.
At 285, Gabriel Cardona won by fall and a 7-1 decision.
Chabot, guided by coach Steve Siroy, will travel to Sacramento City on Sept. 17 for the KLS Air Express Invitational Wrestling Tournament.
