Managing Your Website

Working with Images

Putting your image on your website

1. Open the "images" Folder in Your Website In MS Frontpage

In MS Frontpage, double-click on the "images" folder as shown below to open the "images" folder. You may see a list of existing images in that folder.

2. Find Your Image on Your Computer
Open Windows Explorer and locate the image you'd like to put on your website. In this example, I'm located my picture with the file name me.jpg on my Desktop.

3. Upload Image
With both MS Frontpage window and Windows Explorer window open side-by-side, drag the image you want to upload from Windows Explorer (your computer) to MS Frontpage (the web server) in the images folder as shown below.

4. Open Destination Web Page
In MS Frontpage, open the page in which you'd like to place your image. In this example, I've opened the "Contact Us" page where I'm going to place a picture of me. Place your cursor at the point where you want the image to be placed.

5. Place Image in Web Page
Click Insert > Picture > From File. You will be presented with a Picture box with a list of images that are in the "images" folder in your website that you have uploaded. Select the image you want to place in your web page. In this case, I'm going to select the picture of me. Then click on the "Insert" button.

6. Border the Image (optional)
I don't know about you but I like to put borders around my pictures. To do this, right click on the image and select "Picture Properties". You will then see a "Picture Properties" box as shown below. Change the border thickness to 1 and hit OK.

7. Alternate Text (Required)
Right click on the image and select "Picture Properties". You will then see a "Picture Properties" box as shown below. Click on the "General" tab and check the check box  Then type in a description of the image. In this example, since the picture is of me (Chabot's webmaster), I entered "Picture of Abdullah Yahya". This is so that screen readers can describe what an image is for the visually-impaired. This is one of many requirements to making an accessible website and is required for all educational institutions.

8. Save Your Changes / Upload to The Web
Click File > Save to save your changes.

If you're editing your files directly on web, your changes are instantly shown online.

If you're editing your files locally, you'll need to upload your files to the web for the public to see the changes.
