STEM-E Pathway Counseling

STEM-E (Science, Technology, Engineering, Math & the Environment) Pathway counselors are available to help you achieve your goals! STEM counseling is for students who plan to major in a STEM field such as Biology, Computer Science, Engineering, Environmental/Earth Science, Geology, Chemistry, Physics, Math, and/or are interested in continuing on to a professional program such as Medical, Dental, Pharmacy or Veterinary School. 

All STEM Pathway students should start by seeing a STEM Counselor.  

STEM Drop-in Counseling:

STEM Drop-in Counseling is offered in-person in the STEM Center, 3906. Check-in at the front desk to sign-up. Speak with a STEM Drop-in Counselor for up to 15 minutes for help with: 

  • Assistance with Summer/Fall 24 course planning and course registration (add/drop/W) questions, issues, or blocks 
  • Forms, such as: Math/Chem/Physics placements, overrides, course repeat petitions, excess units etc.  
  • Urgent transfer questions

STEM Counseling Appointments:

STEM Counseling appointments are offered in person (in the STEM Center, 3906) or virtually via Zoom. 

Schedule an appointment with a STEM Counselor to: 

  • Discuss your academic, transfer, and career goals 
  • Review transfer and AS/AS-T requirements 
  • Develop a Comprehensive Student Education Plan (SEP), which will map out which courses you need to take each semester until graduation and/or transfer (we recommend you do this within your first year at Chabot)
  • Review transcripts from prior colleges/universities, or Advanced Placement (AP) scores
  • Complete Counseling forms (such as: excess units, prerequisite overrides, course repeat petitions etc.) 
  • Get connected with STEM Resources (tutoring, research/internship and scholarship information) and STEM Support Programs, such as the MESA Program

STEM-E First Semester Planning Sessions (FSPS) & STEM SOAR Day

All new, incoming, first-time in college students planning to pursue a STEM-E Pathway major should attend either SOAR Day or a STEM FSPS to help you plan out your first semester of classes and get you connected with STEM-E Pathway supports and resources. 

STEM SOAR Day (4/20/24): for local area (Hayward, San Leandro, San Lorenzo, Union City, Castro Valley) high school seniors participating in the SOAR Program who plan to start at Chabot in Sum/Fall 24. RSVP for SOAR Day here.

STEM First Semester Planning sessions (FSPS) are for all other new, incoming, first-time in college students planning to pursue a STEM-E Pathway major.  A STEM FSPS will help you plan out your first semester of classes and get you connected with STEM Pathway supports and resources. 

*Note - If you have previously attended another college or are a continuing Chabot student, we recommend you schedule an individual STEM Counseling appointment (see above) or come to STEM Drop-in instead.
