Purpose of Academic Assessment
One of the most important keys to success in college is taking courses at the
level equal to your current academic skills. Enrolling in courses that are too
easy becomes boring and frustrating, while those that are too hard become
discouraging. For this reason, we offer the English, Math, English as a
Second Language (ESL) assessments, and the Chemistry Test.
Assessment is an important process. How well you do on the assessment test
along with other information that you provide us will determine where you will
start with regards to your courses.
High School English and Math courses do not clear prerequisites but your
GPA and course grades in high school may be used as part of a
assessment along with your test scores for placement.
When you come to take the assessment, we expect that you will try your best so that your results are
as accurate as possible.
If you feel that you can increase your results by brushing up on a particular
subject, please do so before you take the assessment by looking at the
study guides. (Note: we do not provide a study
guide for the Chemistry Test)
