How to clear the Chemistry pre-requisite for CHEM 1A?

Option 1: High school transcript evaluation

Students who have completed one year of chemistry courses in high school with a grade A or B and an overall GPA of 3.0 or higher, may email their transcripts to cc-assessment@chabotcollege.edu. We will evaluate your transcripts for a possible pre-requisite override into Chemistry 1A.

Students will be notified via email.

Option 2: Chemistry Diagnostic test on campus

Students interested in taking Chemistry 1A: General College Chemistry have the option of taking the Chemistry Diagnostic Test to fulfill the chemistry pre-requisite for this class.

This is a timed, paper and pencil test.

Your appointment will be on campus in the General Counseling Conference Room, Building 700, second floor, room 751.

  • Please arrive 10 minutes early.
  • Please bring your photo ID.
  • Please bring a non-programmable calculator.
  • Please don't forget to wear a mask on campus.
The test session will take 1 hour. Please note: A score of 22 or higher out of 44 on the 2006 California Chemistry Diagnostic Exam is required to earn placement into CHEM 1A.
