NEW LOCATION
NEW LOCATIONDescription of the Play
Luis Alfaro, award-winning playwright from L.A., California, renders
this contemporary, fast-paced, highly theatrical retelling of the
classical tale of Electra, set in the barrio of L.A.
It is chalk-filled with the richness of the original story,
including murder, revenge, an examination of the rule of law, family
loyalty, and family destiny.
All this enveloped in the world of Hispanic culture and language,
the show includes a live rock n roll band, a "classical Greek
chorus" of hip/hop/salsa singers and dancers, along with an ensemble
of "cholos." The setting will include a hand-painted mural in the
tradition of Latino, urban artworks.
Personnel
The show is directed by San Lorenzo resident, Linda Amayo-Hassan.
The set designer is Dov Hassan, also of San Lorenzo,
the lighting designer is Union City resident and student at Chabot,
Sean Gallagher.
Actors include Hayward residents Janelle Aguirre,
Kel Rama, Dinorah
Galvan, Moinca Palcastre, Ulises Toledo, among others.
Producer is Rachel LePell, of Chabot College Theater
Arts, in collaboration with Susan E. Evans and Terry
Sullivan of DMT, the Douglas Morrison Theater of Hayward,
California.
DMT is a Program and Facility of the Hayward Area Recreation and
Park District (H.A.R.D.)
Fall 2011
We are doing OTHELLO on the stage of the main auditorium.
We will be creating an intimate theater-in-the-round on the actual
stage of the Performing Arts Center. That show
will open Nov. 9 and run 9,10,11, 12 at 7:30 pm. It is being directed by Rachel LePell and designed by Linda Amayo
and Dov Hassan. Dennis Chowenhill has joined the production
team as a dramaturg (literary consultant).
