Professional Work Experience:
I started my automotive work experience working in Gasoline Service Stations at the age of 16. At the same time I was taking high school auto shop from an instructor that really inspired me and got my interest going for all things automotive. After high school I enrolled in the Automotive Program at Chabot College and earned an Associate of Arts Degree in Auto Tech. Since I was really interested in boats, I went to work in the Marine Industry working on everything from trolling motors to large luxury boats. As time marched on, I found my way back to the automotive trade working at BMW, Volvo, and Honda dealers with some private independent garage work with BMW, Mercedes, Porsche, VW/Audi, with Ferrari and Lamborghinis thrown in for good measure. In 1984 I was asked to start as an evening auto instructor at Chabot College and became a full time instructor in 2003. Along the way, I also worked for the Bureau of Automotive Repair for 16 years as a Field Representative I & II. For those that do not know, the BAR regulates the Automotive Industry.
I belong to several professional trade organizations. I am a member of the Automotive Service Council of California. As a member I participate in the Government Affairs Committee and Industry Task forces. I was the Chapter 16 President for three years. I am a member of the Automotive Technicians Associates and have been the Vice President for several years. I am also a member of the California Auto Teachers Association and the International Auto Technicians Network (iATN).
In my free time I compete in swimming with Pacific Master Swimming. Some of my endeavors include pool competition, open water swims such as Lake Tahoe, Donner Lake, the Santa Cruz Pier, and many others along with a News Years day swim in 48 degree water. I am also an avid bicyclist and like to ride about 3000 to 5000 miles each year. This includes commuting to work on a regular basis. I also like to water ski and enjoy boating activities.
