Student Having Difficulty in Class
There are many reasons that can contribute to students having difficulty in classes. If you are having difficulty in your classes it is important to have honest self-reflection as well as know about options and resources. We recommend the following ways to be proactive:
- Contact your instructor to share your concerns, gain clarity and ask for recommendations
- Utilize tutoring and other free campus resources
- Consider taking a counselor taught PSCN course such as PSCN 15 Study Skills or PSCN 23 Creating Success in College and Life
- Be aware of grade options and deadlines for dropping a course with no grade of record, pass/no pass, withdrawal, extenuating circumstances withdrawal with documentation, academic renewal, repeating course options, etc. outlined in the College Catalog
- Consider unit to work load balance along with other responsibilities
- Discuss situation, challenges and options with a counselor (appointment or drop-in)
Utilize Campus Resources
- Get help with math at STEM Center
- Get help with writing a paper at WRAC
- Get help with a specific subject at Learning Connection
- Get help with a presentation Communication Lab
- When overwhelmed or stressed, visit Health Center or Counseling
- Get help with course selection at Counseling
- To feel connected to campus, visit Special Programs, Student Life Office, or El Centro
- Get access to computer, printing, research at Library
- Get help with bilingual services (Spanish) at El Centro
- Get assistance with a disability or special need at DSPS
