Help with the Application and Registration
Paying for Classes
If the cost of ESL classes at Chabot is difficult for you, one good option is to take noncredit ESL in levels 1-3. Noncredit classes are the same as credit. You have the same teacher, and credit and noncredit students are in the same room. The main difference is the cost. Noncredit classes are free for everyone. Students just pay the $35 student fee one time each semester. In contrast, a 6-unit credit class will cost about $276 for students with California residency and over $2,000 for nonresidents! In level 1 the books are free too. You may need to pay for books in levels 2 and 3. You can email the teacher to ask.
In our credit levels, High Intermediate and Advanced ESL, you may wish to apply for financial aid to cover the cost of classes and expenses. Visit the Chabot College financial aid website and make an appointment with a financial aid counselor for more info.
Other Financial Help
CalFresh and Fresh Success are two programs that can help students with expenses. CalFresh provides money for groceries. Fresh Success gives ESL students money for books, school supplies, gas, or public transportation and more. To find out more about the program requirements, check out the Calfresh and Fresh Success Websites.
Extra Help with English
The Learning Connections has many resources for Chabot ESL students, and they are completely free! You can get help with a class, or just practice your English with a tutor. You can use the computer or print class materials. You can meet with one of the ESL Conversation groups. Or you can just find a quiet place to study. Check it out in Building 100 in Room 108 or visit the Learning Connection website.
