Who Can Take ESL

Age

To join the college as a regularly admitted student, you must be 18 years or older OR have a high school diploma or GED. The High school diploma can be from any country. High school students who are 16 and older can join Chabot’s ESL classes in certain situations, but they need to apply for concurrent enrollment in addition to the regular application and assessment process.

Immigration Status

Chabot welcomes all immigrants and refugees, with or without documentation. However, immigration status can affect the cost of credit classes. Noncredit classes are low cost ($33) for all students. For credit classes, the cost is much lower for students who are classified as California residents. When you fill out the application, the college will decide if you are a California resident or not. Undocumented students and some visa types will be classified as non-residents and have much higher credit tuition. See the current cost of credit class tuition and fees. For questions about California residency, immigration status and the cost of classes, please contact Chabot’s Dream Center. Call or email to make an appointment: (510) 936-1151, email: cc-dreamcenter@chabotcollege.edu.
