Tutor Information
Position Description
Provide individual and small group tutoring to students, both by
appointment and or a drop-in basis at one of our on-campus
facilities (Language Center, Math Lab, PATH (formerly Tutorials),
WRAC, or the World Languages Center) or in classrooms as a Learning
Assistant. Assist students in improving academic achievement by
meeting with them to clarify concepts and skills needed for success.
Assistance might include: reviewing class material, discussing the
text, predicting test questions, formulating ideas for papers, or
working on solutions to problems. Tutoring is a supplement to
teaching. Tutors are not expected to know everything about the
subject for which they tutor. All Chabot College tutors are peer
tutors who must be recommended by a Chabot College instructor.
Responsibilities
- Attend required tutor training classes.

Check Blackboard often.

Check your folder in PATH every day that you are on campus for
new assignments and announcements, in addition to checking your
schedule online each night.

Be punctual for all scheduled tutoring sessions or drop in hours.
It is your responsibility to notify us as soon as possible if
you cannot meet with your students.

Complete and hand in all required paperwork.
Qualifications

An A or B grade in the course(s) to be tutored and instructor
recommendation.

Responsible, dependable, and mature.

Friendly, patient, and sensitive to a diversity of students.

Good interpersonal and communication skills.

A current Chabot student enrolled in a minimum of three academic
units.
Assignments/Pay

All tutors work for pay. There are no volunteer tutors.

Paid tutors earn $8.75 an hour their first semester for both
individual and group tutoring. Once tutors have tutored for
two-hundred (200) hours, they may be recommended to earn $9.25
an hour.

Tutoring hours will be assigned according to student demand and
tutor availability.
Application and Tutor Hiring Process

Once an instructor recommends a student to be a tutor, the
student will be sent an invitation to apply. The invitation will
include an application, or a Learning
Connection Tutor Application (using
Adobe Acrobat) can be downloaded.

Submit completed applications to PATH, Building 2300, Room 2351.

Completed applications will be reviewed and students will be
contacted regarding next steps.

A student does not become a tutor until the application and
interview processes are complete.
